Tessera began with my partner and a new place to make our home.
She looked for art that fitted the rooms and could not find it, so she made it herself. Geometric pieces, designed around the spaces they would hang in. The colours came from what was already there: the rug, the chairs, the bedding. When they went up, they did not look like additions to the rooms. They looked like the rooms had always been waiting for them.
Then something kept happening. People would visit, notice the canvases, and ask where they were from. When they learned she had made them, they asked whether she would make one for their home as well.
That is where the idea came from. Not everyone has someone who can design around a room, but everyone has rooms with colours worth designing around. So I set out to build a studio that works the way she does. The same principles: begin with the colours the room already owns, keep the shapes restrained, let the piece complete the space rather than compete with it.
Tessera is that studio. Upload a photograph of a room, a poster, anything whose colours you love. It reads the palette and proposes designs in five styles, from clean grids to mosaic cells. Adjust as much or as little as you like. The 3D preview shows what the finished canvas will look like, down to the wrapped edges. No design is ever made twice, so the one you order is yours alone.
A few principles were settled at the start and have not moved since. Your photographs are read for their colours and discarded at once, never stored. The printing is giclée on 38 mm gallery frames, done properly. Prices are what they say.
